Google has a reputation for killing products.
Part of the reason Google kills so many products is it always launched lots of new products and experiments in the first place, particularly in its early days. In fact, I get the impression Google is the most prolific tech giant.
The shutdown of products I loved such as Google Reader and Google+ did hurt. But I confess I enjoy exploring new stuff, and I check out all the things Google launches to see if I can integrate them in my workflow.
